Nova Scotia Health Atlas Storymaps

The Nova Scotia Health Atlas uses storymaps to communicate information beyond static maps of population demography, exposures or health outcomes, by pairing the spatial patterns with guided narrative and context. This allows users to see where areas of concern are concentrated while the accompanying text, charts, and layered data explain the possible ‘why’—such as links to deprivation, access to services, or environmental factors. This helps health leadership and decision makers, clinicians, public health teams, and the public explore specific health conditions, compare geographic areas, and interpret the drivers behind the numbers rather than just observing them.

At this time the Nova Scotia Health Atlas includes three stories:

Exploring Provincial Variation in Healthcare Costs

The Impact of Location, Sex, Socioeconomic Status, and Time.

Storymaps can also be accessed from within the NS Health Atlas tool by clicking on the “Stories” tab or by selecting the stories page from the menu icon (three horizontal lines) link found in the top right corner of the screen.
